Influenced by his frankly ridiculous collection of vintage science fiction, pulp magazines and comic books, along with an obsessive dose of Jungian theory, counter culture, Primitivism, esoteric writings and sacred texts.
Benford combines these ingredients in a labor intensive, work ethic-driven style to create intricate Ink renderings, a nod to his love of the low brow. With intention to depict the unseen energies and spirits that form the undercurrent of our reality, his work is often symbolic in nature, snapshots of a deep psychological treasure hunt. He also writes a bit, paints a bit and tends to be more comfortable describing himself in the third person as a dissociative measure.
